Six martyrs among 48 officers of Sindh police honoured

KARACHI: As many as 48 police officers, including six martyrs, were given police medals in a ceremonyheldhereonWednesday.

The event was attended by Sindh Home Minister Ziaul Hassan Lanjar, Inspector General of Police Ghulam Nabi Memon, Additional Chief Secretary-Home Muhammad Iqbal Memon, families of the martyrs and others.

Speaking on the occasion, the IGP said that the martyrs and serving police officers are being awarded for their heroic acts and sacrifices between 2014 and 2022.

The home minister said that Sindh police, despite all difficult conditions and inadequate facilities, were performing their duty toprotectthelife and property of citizens.

He opined that with the efforts of the IGP and his team, a `positive change` was visible in the overall efforts and steps taken byKarachi police. Karachi is a mega city where not only foreigners but people from all over the country reside.

`There is a need to work like a team for progress and prosperity of the country and the province, suggested the home minister, adding that all decisions should be taken on `merit and keeping in view the priorities of the people.

The home minister said that President of Pakistan Asif Ali Zardari had already issued directions to Sindh Chief Minister Murad Ali Shah for the issuance of martyrs` funds, while funds for Ghazis would also be provided.

The IGP suggested that, like the federal government, the Sindh government also announce awards/medals for the policemen annually.

To which, the home minister assured that he would take up this issue before the provincial government, as the president of Pakistan was also `happy` with the performance of Sindh police.
