B A H AW A L P U R: Teachers staged a protest and sit-in on Wednesday outside the Government Technical High School near the busy Farid Gate.
They demanded withdrawal of amendments to pension rules and the restoration of leave encashment.
Office-bearers of the teachers` association told reporters that their protests would continue until the Punjab government meets their demands. The demonstrators raised slogans in support of their cause.
ARRESTED: TheLodhran Saddar police conducted a raid in Dakota and recovered 1 kg of heroin arresting Waseem Sardar.
Also, Nowshehra Jadeed police in Bahawalpur district arrested Shafiq and recovered 12kg charas from him. The police registered a case against him.
In Vehari district, Gaggo police arrested Bahadur Ali and Nasim Bibi after recovering 10kg and 4kg of charas, respectively.
BURNT: A man named Hashim (36), of Mohallah Arifabad in Khangah Sharif, suffered severe burns after a lit cigarette triggered a fire in his bedwhile he was asleep.
Rescuers reported that Hashim sustained major burns on his body and was shifted to Bahawal Victoria Hospital in critical condition.
FUNDS: MNA Tehmina Daultana has claimed Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz has approved special funds for the carpeting of the dual carriageway from Vehari to Multan.
Speaking at a function in Vehari today, Ms Daultana stated that tendersfor the project have already been floated following the approval and release of funds. She said that the dual carriageway project was a challenge and appreciatedthe chief minister`s dedication to ensuring its approval.
She said that her next target is the establishment of Kalsoom Nawaz Medical College, for which the feasibility report is ready. She said e that funds for this project will be allocated in the current fiscal year`s Annual Development Plan (ADP).
She said that work on the natural gas supply network had commenced and ef forts are underway to expand connections for residents. She assured that all promises made by PML-N chief Mian Nawaz Sharif would be fulfilled progressively.
