PESHAWAR: The district administration on Saturday set on fire low quality eatables and goods, which had been seized during raids in various areas of the provincial metropolis from time to time.
The eatables including ghee, tea, spices, snacks, biscuits and other goods were torched on the land earmarked for the construction of Benazir Hospital on Ring Road. The goods were put on fire under the supervision of Deputy Commissioner Zaheerul Islam.
Sources said that the low quality eatables, which were mostly unfit for human consumption, had been seized during raids by the district administration in various parts of Peshawar. After seizure, the goods were taken to the proposed site of Benazir Hospital where they were burnt.
Sources said that the district administration was keeping a strict vigil on the manufacturing and sale of substandard goods in the limits of the provincial metropolis.
The administration was also planning a crackdown on the elements involved in the trade of low quality eatables, sources added.
