Textbook reforms

2016-02-16
APROPOS the report `JI points out `objectionable material`in textbooks to govt` (Feb 8). E ducationists in Pakistan have minced no words when describing the outdated and ineffective curriculum taught in our schools.

Thereisno denying thefact thatthe textbooks taught at primary and secondary levels are replete with flaws and require some serious reforms.

However, Jamaat-i-Islami`s objections have brought to the fore the misplaced conceptions held by the party regarding textbook reforms.

The JI`s demand for removal of some chaptersrelated to events and personalities from Pakistan and Islamic history highlights the myopic vision of one of the oldest and prominent religio-political parties of Pakistan.

Viewing the `marriage of convenience` between threPTIand the JIinKhyber Pakhtukhwa, it is highly likely that the provincial education department would cave in to the pressure from its politicalbosses and play its role in presenting a distorted version of history to our children.
