`CPEC to open new avenues to regional prosperity`

RAWALPINDI: A delegation from the Rawalpindi Chamber of Commerce and Industry (RCCI), led by the chamber`s president Zahid Latif Khan, called on Commander Southern Command, Lt Gen Asim Saleem Bajwa in Rawalpindi on Thursday.

Talking to the delegation, Lt Gen Bajwa said the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) will open new avenues for regional prosperity, connectivity and sustainable peace and will bring economic prosperity in the region as well as the whole world.

He said the improvement of the law and order situation in Balochistan was the government`s top priority and that the Pakistan Army was assisting in the training and capacity building of police and other law enforcement agencies in this regard.

CPEC will serve as a gateway to Afghanistan and central Asian republics, he added.

Appreciating RCCI`s efforts in promoting business activities in the region, Mr Bajwa said the business community, especially the private sector, should come forward and play its due role in the economic prosperity of the country.

He assured of his office`s cooperation in the RCCI 10th All Pakistan Chamber Presidents` Conference in Gwadar next month RCCI President Zahid Latif Khan briefed Mr Bajwa on the current activities and future programs of the chamber.

He said RCCI picked Gwadar for its next conference so the business community can see the development on the ground and get awareness regarding the future aspects of CPEC.

Mr Khan also shared the agenda for the conference which includes CPEC and its possible impacts on inter and intra regional trade, connectivity and regional trade integration, trade and investment opportunity in Pakistan, inter-regional trade barriers and the settlement of international trade disputes.
