Chambers moot calls for annual trade polls

RAHIMYARKHAN: A unanimous resolution passed during the 4th All Pakistan Chambers Presidents Conference here on Saturday decided to hold elections of trade bodies annually instead of every two years.
The conference was attended by Patron-inChief of United Business Group and Federation of Pakistan Chambers of Commerce and Industry S.M. Tanvir, along with FPCCI Senior Vice President Saqib Fayyaz, Regional Chairman Zain Iftikhar, Vice President Zaki Ijaz, RYK Chamber of Commerce and Industry President Waleed Ahmed, and former presidents Abdul Rauf Mukhtar and Aamir Atta Bajwa.
Speakers stressed the need for a charter of econ-omy, advocating for longterm economic policies.
Key demands in the resolution included electricity tariff to be fixed at nine cents per unit, reducing interest rates to a single digit, reforms in the FBR to expand the tax net and simplify the tax system, promotion of alternative imports to reduce the import bill, early sowing of cotton to support the agriculture sector.
It also called for development in agriculture, industrial and IT sectors, reducing burden on taxpayers, boosting exports, enhancing women`s business opportunities, ensuring trade institutions have a say in policy decisions, strengthening collaboration between chambers and FPCCI. Correspondent
