False slogans

CHITTAGONG: President Mohammad Ayub Khan yesterday [March 14] warned the nation against the separationist tendency of certain political leaders who were raising slogans in the name of provincial autonomy.
Addressing a huge public meeting at the Niaz Stadium here, the President said ... that if the people felt that the two halves of the country could not exist separately they must meet their challenge and they would find him at their back to fight for the preservation of integrity and solidarity of the country.
About the demand for a Parliamentary form of Government, the President said that it was given enough trial and was proved that it could not work in this country where there were over a dozen political parties.
He said that for the successful working of the Parliamentary form of Government it was essential to have two political parties. He referred to England where the Wilson Government was surviving with the majority of only three members.
He said that there was so much discipline in that country and the political parties that no member could dare to change party af filiations.
In Pakistan, on the other hand, members used to cross the floor very of ten. Agencies [Meanwhile, as reported by our Correspondent from Dacca,] the Leader of the Opposition, Mr Nurul Amin, today [March 15] strongly advocated that all outstanding disputes between India and Pakistan should be solved by peaceful means.
Mr Nurul Amin, who was speaking on the foreign policy of the country in the Assembly this evening, said even after 18 years of failure and 17 days of war he did not think that outstanding problems could not be settled through peaceful means.
The Opposition Leader, who spoke for about one hour, lent support to the efforts of the Government in finding a peaceful solution to Indo-Pakistan problems.
In contrast to other opposition speakers who participated in the two-day debate on the country`s foreign policy, Mr Nurul Amin spoke favourably about the implications of Tashkent Declaration.
