WE have seen how the lack of a local government has played havoc with trash collection and street cleaning in Karachi. If every citizen plays his part in keeping Karachi clean, the city will be much cleaner than it is now.
It is indeed a serious problem when people suffer owing to the unbearable stench of garbage which has accumulated since the past couple of years. When garbage remains uncollected even for two or three days, it turns toxic and causes severe harm to the people living in its vicinity.
People inhale the air which is polluted due to the garbage stench as a result of which they get affected by serious health issues. Besides, the trash turns out to be anapt breeding ground for mosquitoes, flies and cockroaches.
During the rainy reason the situation turns worse, as the rain water flows through streets, carrying all the garbage with it.
This turns the locality absolutely unhygienic and unpleasant to live in.
