PESHAWAR: The regional offices of the Accountant General of Pakistan Revenues and Auditor General of Pakistan have been found to be illegally using the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa administration department`s vehicles for a long time.
Under the rules, neither the department can give its vehicles to the two federal government agencies nor can the latter use them. According to the information obtained by Dawn under the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Right to Information Act, 2013, among these vehicles are three Toyota Corolla ones and one Suzuki Carry one.
The information provided by the transport wing of the administration department reveals that three Toyota Corolla cars bearing registration numbers A-9972, A-4142, A-5883 and one Suzuki Carry car with the registration number of A-8961 are used by the AGPR and AGP regional of fices.
A year ago, the department retrieved nine vehicles, including five Toyota Corolla, two Suzuki Mehran, one Suzuki Jeep and Nissan each ones, from the AGPR and AGP after putting up repeated requests to the officers using them and facing their strong resistance.
Asked under which rules the administration department has authorised the AGPR and AGP`s regional of fices to use its vehicles, the relevant officials said the question should be puttothe provincialaccountantgeneralofhce.
`Actually, the administration department pleases the of ficers of the AGPR and AGP by offering them own vehicles to get their bills cleared without any difficulty,` a relevant of ficial told Dawn.
He insisted that the provincial departments were fed up with the `unnecessary observations` of the two federal agencies on their bills. A senior official in the AGPR of fices in Peshawar said only two vehicles of the administration department were at his office`s disposal and one was used by him.
`I can hand over the car to the administration department whenever it wants to return,` he said.
The of ficial, who was posted to Peshawar a few months ago, said the correspondence regarding giving of vehicles between the AGPR and administration department was a story of past.-Mohammad Ashfaq
