WAT ER is an essential basic necessity for the survivalof allhvingthings. In 2015, former president Asif Ali Zardari, launched Asia`s biggest solar-powered reverse osmosis plant costing Rs934 million.
The plant has a capacity to filter more than two million gallons of water daily. It is located in Mithi city, the headquarters of district Tharparkar. This district is the least developed and most backward area of Pakistan.
The Sindh government set up the plant to solve Tharparkar`s acute water problem and to provide its people easy access to clean and hygienic water.
An alarming news report appearing in the media is that 84 RO plants in Thar including the one in Mithi would close soon because the dues to run RO plants had not been paid by the Sindh Coal Authority.
The people of Thar on the other hand complain of mismanagement at the Mithi RO plant by the plant staff and say that it is not functioning properly. They claim that sometimes the staff uses excessive chemicals. As a result many people are suffering from stomach problems, headaches and other ailments.
Thisis an appealtothe Sindh government to take immediate action in this matter.
