RAWALPINDI: Two weeks after the murder of a journalist, police have arrested one of the co-workers of the deceased on the charge of involvement in the case.
Anjum Muneeb Raja, in his 40s and father of a five-year-old boy, was working as a sub-editor in an Urdu newspaper in Blue Area Islamabad.
On March 2, he was returning home on a motorcycle when another bike rider intercepted him on the Mall in Rawalpindi and shot him dead at about 11:45pm.
Superintendent of Police (SP) Potohar Division Syed Ali told Dawn that a team had been constituted to solve what he said the blind murder case.
He said as the police launched an investigation it transpired that one of the co-workers of the deceased at his office, identified as Qaiser Rehman, had a quarrel with him over a petty issue the same day when he was killed.
The deceased and the suspect were close friends.
The SP said since the murder of the journalist the suspect had been absent from the office and his mobile phone was also found switched off.
When the police visited the house of the suspect at Adiala Road, his family members first said he was not there but after they were pressured by the police they produced the suspect.
During the interrogation, the suspect confessed to killing the journalist.
The SP said the murder weapon had also been recovered from the arrested man.
