KARACHI: Sindh Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shahhasexpressedhis displeasure over slow pace of work on 443 ongoing development schemes costing Rs33.6 billion.
Reviewing the progress on uplift schemes pertaining to education, Rural Development Department (RDD) and Public HealthEngineering Department in a meeting with officials, the chief minister asked the departments to complete 205 schemes by June 2019 otherwise action would be taken accordingly.
Earlier, the school education secretary briefed the CM that 201 schemes of Rs15.15bn were in progress against which Rs6.9bn had been released while utilisation was recorded at Rs3.5bn. Theschemes include establishment of Early Childhood Education Intervention at Hyderabad and Karachi and construction of `shelter-less` and other schools at different districts.
The education secretary said 60 schemes, for which 100 per cent allocation was released, would be completed by June 2019.
The chief minister directed him to complete 118 schemes of shelter-lessschools and other schools, which are required to be made functional just with the purchase of furniture and directed the P&D chairman to remove these 118 schemes from next ADP.
Seaview incident Taking serious notice of the incident reported on media wherein police officials manhandled a couple at Seaview on Sunday, the chief minister stressed the needfor imparting necessary training to police to bring about `positive behavioural changes` in the department.
A letter written to the IG police by his deputy secretary dated March 12 reads that the chief minister was of the view that the incident portrayed a sad picture.
`Reformation of police system is the need of the hour in order to protect peoples` basic civil rights, he added.
