GHALANAI,April15:A security man was killed when militants attacked two checkposts in Mohmand tribal region on Sunday morning, official sources said.

They said that the checkposts were attacked in Haleemzai and Khewazai areas of the tribal region.

Militants used heavy weapons in the attacks, they added.The sources said that Zafar Khan, a soldier of Levies Force, was killed when militants targeted Khara Shah checkpost in Khewazai.

They said that militants attacked the newly established checkposts in Ghaiba Khawar area of Haleemzai and Khara Shah checkpost in Khewazai at around 2am.

Officials said that militants attacked the checkposts fromfour sides. Security forces also retaliated and repulsed the attacks, they said.

Later, funeral prayers of the killed soldier were offered in Ghalanal and his body was sent to his ancestral village in Prang Ghar tehsil.

Mohmand Taliban spokesman talked to local journalists by telephone and claimed responsibility for the attacks.
