Captors of student held with Rs2m ransom

MUZAFFARGARH: The Sarwar Shaheed Saddar police recovered a ninth-grade student and arrested the culprits involved in the kidnap-for-ransom case. The police also recovered Rs2 million in ransom money.
On the morning of April 10, Iqbal Khan reported to the police that his son, Sohail, had been abducted by unknown suspects on his way to school. The police registered a case under Section 365-B of the Pakistan Penal Code and launched a search operation.
Shortly afterward, the kidnappers contacted the family, demanding a ransom of Rs30 million.
Posing as the complainant, the police engaged the suspects in negotiation. During the exchange, when the suspects realised they were dealing with police ratherthan the victim`s family, they attempted to flee with the ransom.
However, they were arrested.
Based on the suspects` confession, who were identified as residents of the Katcha area in Hyderabad district, Sindh, the police recovered Sohail from the Katcha area along the River Chenab and seized the ransom money.
In another incident, a man allegedly sold a one-day-old nephew for Rs350,000 within the limits of Chowl< Sarwar Shaheed police station on Tuesday.
According to initial reports, Arif, the uncle of the newborn Ghazi Abbas Noonari`s son, took the infant from the hospital and sold him to a childless couple in Multan.
The sale was reportedly linked to a watta satta (exchange marriage) arrangement. By the time the child`s father and grandmother arrived at the hospital, the baby had already been taken away.The distressed family has appealed to higher authorities for the recovery of the child and action against the suspect.
However, the police spokesperson denied the reports, claiming that the news of the child`s sale was false. Citing a statement from the child`s mother, he said: `I am having a domestic dispute with my husband, and the news was spread to defame my family.
He said a legal action was being taken against those responsible for spreading misinformation.
ELECTROCUTED: A 14-yearold boy died from electrocution here on Tuesday.
Reports said Kaleem was visiting the home of Gulzar as a guest when the incident occurred. His son, Sahil, was attempting to connect a motor -one wire to an electric plug and the other using his mouth -when he received an electric shock.
