Our banking system

2017-05-16
MY son lives in the US and holds NICOP and has an account in a local bank, so that he can draw local currency when he visits Karachi. Recently he contacted his bank to help him readjust his pass word. The reply of the bank is worth quoting: `Please be informed that as per SOP you need to call from your registered number (in Pakistan) for the needful.` This terse and crisp reply means that my son has to fly all the way from the US to Karachi (spend about Rs200,000, inconvenience besides) just to reset the password. Is there no other way to verify his credentials his NICOP, credit cards, ATM cards, etc? In which era and in which part of the world are our banks living? S.M. Anwar Karachi
