Workers oppose Swati as PTI poll commissioner

2017-05-16
PESHAWAR: Pakistan Tehreelei-Insaf workers from various districts have rejected the nomination of Azam Swati as election commissioner for PTFs intra-party polls and urged Imran Khan to reinstate Tasneem Noorani on the seat.

Speaking at a press conference here on Monday, PTI central executive committee member Saleem Jan Khan demanded of the central leadership to hold accountable the party provincial ministers and MPAs for their alleged involvement in corruption.

He said a central level leader, Ali Asghar Khan, had demanded accountability of ministers -Qalandar Lodhi and Mushtaq Ahmed Ghani -but Hazara division president MPA Zar Gul had issued him show-cause notice for levelling the allegations. He said Ali Asghar was PTFs central vice president and central executive committee member, thus he could not be issued show-cause notice by a junior member.

Saleem Jan clarified that the party`s central general secretary could only issue show-cause notice to any party officebearer or worker, and demanded immediate withdrawal of the notice.

He allege d that the lawmakers were creating hurdles in the functioning of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Ehtesab Commission.

He also criticised Chief Minister Pervez Khattak and central leader Azam Swati for electing people of their choice on key seats and keeping the ideological workers at bay.

He demanded of PTI chairman Imran Khan to constitute a committee to probe the corruption charges against the ministers. He also called for restoration of the party constitution of 2012 and appointment of Tasneem Noorani as commissioner for the intra-party elections. He said the workers would launch a mass contact campaign if Imran did not respond positively to their complaints.

PTI activists Ismail Khan, Jehangir Raza, Yousaf Ali, Zafarullah Khan Khattak and Ms Farzana Zain were also present on the occasion. Bureau Report
