Transporters protest removal of terminals

RAWALPINDI: A large number of transporters operating between Rawalpindi and Murree here on Tuesday staged a protest against the demolition of terminals at Faizabad.

The protesters chanted slogans against the government and the authorities concerned.

They blocked IJ.

Principal Road besides suspending the transport service for Murree and other cities.

Mohammad Ali, a wagon driver, said they earned livelihoods for their families by providing travel facilities to passengers but the government had created problems for the transporters as well as commuters by demolishing the Faizabad terminals.

`We will expand our protest to Parliament House if the government did not accept our genuine demands,` said Amjad Abbasi, another transporter.

He said the government should provide the transporters alternative terminals for continuing their services.

Meanwhile, passengers and tourists faced inconveniencebecauseofthe suspension of private transport services between Rawalpindi and the hilly resort town of Murree.
