Pindi PAT workers to participate in sit-in

RAWALPINDI: More than 1,500 workers of Pakistan Awami Tehreek (PAT) from Rawalpindi will participate in a sit-in at The Mall in Lahore on June 17 night to mark second anniversary of Model Town incident.
The PAT has tasked the localchapter ofthe party to bring at least 1,500 workers for the sit-in and barred it from bringing children and women.
`Mostly people will arrive from South Punjab and inner Punjab so it did not make any big demand from the North Punjab chapters,` said a senior party leader while talking to Dawn.
He said the party had asked its workers not to come to Lahore in shape of rallies rather in a group two or four via buses, wagons and trains. `This time, the party did not give financial help to its local chapters to bring the people. In 2014 sitin, PAT provided money to all the tehsils office bearers forthe transport ofthe peo-ple,` he said.
He said the transport the transport charges increased. Now an amount of Rs45,000 to Rs47,000 was required to transport 50 people from Rawalpindi to Lahore, excluding lodging and boarding.
When contacted, PAT Rawalpindi Chapter spokesman Suhail Abbasi said that the party had stopped the local organisation from bringing people in rallies so they had made a plan to bring people in small groups.
`All the people will gather at The Mall before Iftar and the main function will start after Tarweeh prayers,` he said and added that the participants may say in Lahore for a few days.
However, he refused to share any further details of the agitation plan. He said final decision would be announced onJune17.
Replying to a question, he said that the party had barred the local chapter from bringing children and women to Lahore. A Reporter
