PROTEST: Several powerloom workers staged a demonstration at Qadirabad Chowk on Wednesday against hourslong unscheduled loadshedding.
Carrying banners against power outages and Faisalabad Electric Supply Company (Fesco) officials, the workers shouted slogans anddemanded smooth supply of power.
The protest was organised under the banner of the Labour Qaumi Movement.
Talking to reporters, the workers said they had been facing numerous problems owing to seven to eight hours of unscheduled loadshedding. They said people doing business in clothing were making good money because of the upcoming Eid, but powerloom workers were struggling to make both ends meet.
They also said weaving mill owners had also requested Fesco officials a number of times to improve power supply by reviewing the schedule.
Currently, loadshedding timing for industrial feeders is 1:30am to 3:30am, 12:30pm to 2:30pm and 8:30pm to 10:30pm.
The protesters demanded the government improve the situation otherwise they would launch a protest campaign.
Fesco spokesman Tahir Sheikh said only four to five hours of load management was being observed in industrial areas.
