PESHAWAR: The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Assembly on Thursday unanimously passed a resolution demanding appointment of a female principal at the Khyber Girls Medical College (KGMC), Peshawar.
The resolution was jointly moved by lawmakers, including Meraj Hamayun Khan, Uzma Khan, Naseem Hayat, Yasmeen Pir Mohammad Khan and Nargis Ali.
The resolution said that KGMC was the sole institution impahing medical education to girls only in the province. It said that the purpose of setting up of the female-only college was to provide them with the opportunity to pursue their education in a free environment.
To achieve this objective, it said, the government should appoint a female head for the only girls medical college of the province so that they could perform their duties easily.
The resolution also demanded that if such appointment was not allowed under the rules then through an amendment to the Medical Teaching Institutions (MTI) law two deans should be allowed so that a woman was appointed as dean on the other seat. The KGMC was established in 2003.
