MUZAFFARGARH: Police on Wednesday arrested three people for torturing a boy at a panchayat on charges of stealing a battery at 366/TDA Tehsil Chobara.

Landlord Mumtaz held a Punchayat at his outhouse where he along with Riaz Ahmed, Mohammad Aslam tied Shafgat with a charpoy and tortured him for allegedly stealing a battery. The suspect uploaded a video of the torture on the social media.

After the video wentviral, Layyah District Police Officer Dr Nida Umer Chattha ordered the Chobara police to arrest the suspects.

Police have registered a case under sections 342, 355 and 292 of Pakistan Penal Code against the three suspects and arrested them. Further investigation is under way.

POLICE VOLUNTEERS: Layyah DPO Dr Nida Umer Chattha on Wednesday distributed Rs4.7 million among 170 national police volunteers in the form of cheques, uniforms and honorarium.
