LAHORE: Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf has challenged provision of reserved seats for women in local government law.
The party`s Lahore Women Wing President Zarqa Taimoor filed the petition and submitted that the law for reserved seats for women is discriminatory and aim to benefit specific political parties.
She says the law for reserved seats for women in LG polls is also contrary to the Constitution. The petitioner says the procedure of the LG election is totally different from the national and provincial assemblies.
The petitioner asks the court to set aside section 14 of Local Government Act for being discriminatory and contrary to the Constitution.
The impugned section empowers chairman of a union council to elect the members of reserved seats including for the women.
