LAHOR E: The Pakistan Tehreek-iInsaf (PTI) has cancelled party membership of its Lahore Cantonment Board Ward 4 Councillor Faisal Faryad Awan for allegedly taking bribe from the PML-N.

The PTI has also decided to approach the Election Commission for the councillor`s disqualification.

PTI Punjab Organiser Chaudhry Sarwar has issued a formal membership cancellation notification.

Awan was issued a show-cause notice for taking Rs5 million and stay at a five-star hotel sponsored for aweek for supporting the PML-N candidate during the union council chairman election. Instead of responding to the notice, PTI officials said the councillor did not observe party discipline and supported the PML-N`s candidate for vice chairmanship.

The party leaders said workers had worked for the success of the councillor but he betrayed his voters and the party trust.

Meanwhile, talking to a delegation of party workers from Sialkot, led by retired Brig Aslam Ghumman, at his office on Wednesday, Sarwar said real democracy could not prevail in Pakistan until establishment of a free, fair and transparent elec-toral system.

He said those who misused their powers after being elected by the masses did not deserve to hold office and must be punished under the law.

He stressed the party workers should end differences and unite for the sake of making the party stronger and ef fective.

He further said the PTI had submitted proof of rigging before the judicial commission with the aim to make the election process free, fair and transparent.

He said the PTI would defeat all rival political parties in the upcoming elections with the support of the masses.
