Two more witnesses identify Safoora Goth bus carnage suspects

KARACHl: Two more witnesses on Wednesday rightly picked out three Safoora Goth bus carnage suspects during an identification parade before a judicial magistrate almost a week after two of the suspects had been identified by five injured victims of the ruthless attack.

Police produced Saad Aziz alias Tin Tin alias John, Tahir Hussain Minhas alias Sain, and Asad-ur-Rahman alias Malik with their faces covered before the coud of a Malir judicial magistrate, who conducted the identification parade after completing legal formalities.

The three suspects along with their absconding accomplices have been booked for allegedly killing 47 Shia Ismaili community members, including women, in a targeted attack on their bus near Safoora Goth on May 13.

Saad Aziz, Tahir Minhas and Asad-urRahman were lined up along with the dummies when the magistrate called the witnesses one after another to identify them.

The witnesses rightly picked out the suspects among the dummies and testified that they were present near the crime site and saw the suspects flee after committing the offence and their clothes were stained with blood.

In the row of dummies, the positions of the suspects were changed before the witnesses were called to identify them thrice. On all the three occasions, the witnesses rightly picked out the suspects among the dummies.

According to the prosecution, around 60 Shia Ismaili community members were on their way in a community bus from Al-Azhar Garden near Safoora Goth to their workplace at Ayesha Manzil when the suspects intercepted the bus near Safoora Goth and sprayed the passengers with bullets, leaving 47 of them, including 17 women, dead. Ten commuters who sustained gunshot wounds were later rushed to a hospital, the prosecution added. A case was registered at the Sachal police station. The suspects have been given in police custody on physical remand by an antiterrorism court.

DIG-East Munir Ahmed Shaikh, who is heading the team of investigators, said that besides ocular accounts, they were also collecting scientific evidence for corroboration.

Naval officer murder Meanwhile, an eyewitness on Wednesday identified Saad and Tahir before a judicial magistrate in another case pertaining to the murder of a naval official.

A judicial magistrate (east) conducted the identification parade in which the witness picked out both the suspects.

Captain Nadeem Ahmed was gunned down in September 2013 near Karsaz Bridge while his foreigner wife suffered injuries in the attack.

The counter-terrorism department (CTD) of police claimed to have arrested Saad Aziz, Tahir Minhas, Hafiz Nasir alias Yasir and Mohammad Azhar Ishrat alias Majid after a shootout near Habib Society in Gulshan-iMaymar on May 20.
