Two men found in illegal police custody

LARKANA: A court official in a surprise visit on Wednesday discovered two brothers kept in illegal confinement at the Rehmatpur police station.

A man named Muhammed Soofan in an application moved before the sessions judge accused the Rehmatpur police of keeping his two nephews, Badar Ali and Abdul Jabbar, since July 5 in illegal custody.

The court appointed Mumtaz Ali Jessar, a court official, with the direction to pay surprise visits of police stations and locate the detainees. The raid commissioner found both the detainees kept at Rehmatpur police station without any papers authenticating their arrest.

The duty officer failed to produce any documents to validate their arrest, so the court official freed them. The SHO Rehmatpur police station was asked to appear before the court on July 16 with papers, if any, to prove their arrests legal.
