Assets beyond means NAB summons Pervaiz, Shujaat today

LAHORE: The National Accountability Bureau (NAB) on Wednesday summoned the joint nominee of PTI and PML-Q for the office of Punjab Assembly speaker Chaudhry Pervaiz Elahi and his cousin and party president Chaudhry Shujaat Husain in assetsbeyond-means case on Thursday (today).

The election for the PA speaker and deputy speaker is alsoscheduledforThursday.

Two NAB letters issued to the Chaudhrys state that the investigation proceedings have revealed that huge assets and shares of companies have beenacquired by them and their family which prima facie appear beyond their legal means.

Furthermore, huge transactions have been observed in bank accounts maintained by them and their family members, the legitimacy of the same is required to be explained / given by them and their family.

`You were required to submit duly filled assets proforma served upon youin allrespects, however, you failed to submit the requisite assets proforma despite several extensions given on your request. This noncooperation on your part has already affected the course of investigation,` NAB letter said.

The Chaudhry brothers were directed to appear before Mr Najam Abbas, NAB`s Assistant Director in Lahore at 11am at the NAB Complex, Thokar Niaz Beg, for submission of requisite assets proforrna and explanation of assets acquired by them and their family.

The letter further states that in case of non-provision of requisite information, it would be construed that `you have nothing more to offer in your defence.

The letter said that failing to comply with the notice may entail penal consequences as provided in the schedule of NAO 1999.PML-Q spokesman Kamil Ali Agha said Ch Shujaat would appear before NAB while Pervaiz Elahi would send his lawyer because of the speaker`s election.

ALEEM: The National Accountability Bureau on Wednesday summoned PTI leader Aleem Khan for personal hearing in offshore company`s case next week.

According to a source, the NAB issued him another notice to reappear before a combined investigation team after his reply failed to satisfy it.

`Aleem Khan had submitted a reply to NAB on July 30 and on Aug 10 regarding his assets beyond known sources of income and offshore company`s cases but the bureau rejected it,` he said.

The source said Mr Khan could not give satisfactory reply to the NAB team about his offshore company and he was again asked to explain about sources of income to justify his properties in the UK and UAE.

KHOKHAR: The NAB also summoned PML-N MNA Saifal Mulook Khokhar on Aug 16 (today) to submit his reply in assets beyond means case.

Mr Khokhar would appear before the NAB for the third time and was directed to submit reply and record of his assets.
