LAHORE: The anti-smuggling squad of the Customs’ Lahore Collectorate claim to have seized 395 mobile phone sets worth Rs2.5 million from a suspected smuggler at Sherakot Lorry Adda.

Officials told Dawn that a team constituted by Assistant Collector Saqibur Rehman and led by Superintendent Mumtaz Ajmal took the suspect, Imran Nawaz, into custody for questioning and recovered 395 costly phone sets of assorted models from two cartons.

The suspect in preliminary interrogation told officials that he bought the phones from China, crossed the border from Pak-China land route without paying duties and taxes, reached Rawalpindi and took a bus to Lahore.

Officials said the suspect was being interrogated for extracting information about his network and would be later booked.
