LAHORE: The Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf (PTI) has sought police protection for its candidates and election offices for by-polls being held in the provincial capital on Oct 11.

In a letter to Punjab Inspector General (IG) Mushtaq Sukhera on Tuesday, PTI Punjab Organiser Chaudhry Sarwar emphasised that the party`s nominees, Abdul Aleem Khan for NA-122 and Shoaib Siddiqui for PP-147, needed security cover as Khan particularly was under threat.

The IG was reminded of an earlier request for increasing security cover for all PTI offices.

The communiqué said Khan`s office in Gulberg needed special attention and at least two uniformed police constables should bedeployed there, while the police station concerned should also keep a vigilant eye on the surroundings.

Similarly, it said, Garhi Shahu Chowk election office should also be provided immediate security and would require deployment of four special branch officers at the main entrance, a walkthrough gate with metal detectors and four armed uniformed personnel inside the building.

Meanwhile, Sarwar alleged at an election meeting that PTI workers were being harassed by police. He warned the Punjab government police should be asked to avoid harassing its workers otherwise the PTI would besiege the IG`s office.

He said the Punjab government was doling out millions of rupees to its people and wondered whether there was anyone to take notice.
