LAHORE: A Lahore High Court division bench on Tuesday dismissed appeals of three men convicted for making suicide jackets and other explosive material.

An anti-terrorism court had awarded life imprisonment to Qari Usman, Sajjad Akhtar and Amanullah.

Counsel for the convicts pleaded the decision of the trial court was defective.

He said the prosecution could not produce any cogent evidence against his clients. Although the trial court sentenced them, he added.

A deputy prosecutor opposed the appeals and said police had recovered 500kg of explosive material and suicide jackets from the possession of the convicts. He said the convicts were found guilty during the investigation.

After hearing both sides, the bench headed by Justice Muhammad Qasim Khan dismissed the appeals.

SHO SUMMONED: The Lahore High Court on Tuesday summoned the Burkis tation house officer (SHO) with a report on the property of an overseas Pakistani allegedly grabbed by land mafia.

Amina Javed, British national of Pakistani origin, contended in her petition that she had purchased three plots in `Imperial Garden Lahore`housing scheme against a consideration of Rs10 million.

She alleged that land grabbers Mansha Ghumman, Ali Azhar and Shahid Butt prepared fake documents and occupiedherpropertyillegally.

The petitioner said she had approached the Punjab Overseas Commission set up by the chief minister but no action was taken. She pointed out a court ordered registration of a case against the illegal occupants, but police were reluctant to do so. She alleged the land grabbers enjoyed support of the ruling PML-N.

The petitioner asked the court to order the Burki SHO to register a case against the suspects and get possession of her plots restored.

Justice Farrukh Gulzar Awan heard the petitioner`s contention and directed the SHO to appear in person along with the record on Sept 17.
