Eid Bazaar PESHAWAR, Oct 15: A two-day Eid Bazaar of products prepared by women entrepreneurs organised by Women Business Development Centre (WBDC) Peshawar attracted a large number of shoppers on the second day on Tuesday.

WBDC is a project of Small and Medium Enterprises Development Authority (Smeda) of the Ministry of Industries and Production.

The project was launched three years back for the promotion of women entrepreneurship to create employment opportunities and help alleviate poverty in the country.

The centre arranges such events on every religious festival and also holds solo exhibitions of young entrepreneurs.

Women entrepreneurs from all over Peshawar are participating in the exhibition.

Their products ranging from a variety of unstitched and stitched clothes, shoes, jewellery, handbags and other accessories are on sale.

President, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chamber of Commerce and Industry Zahidullah Shinwari inaugurated the event.Bureau Report Demo against police PESHAWAR, Oct 15: The residents of Doog Darra, Upper Dir, held a protest demonstration at Sher Shah Suri Road here on Tuesday against the police for arresting six members of a family and sought help of the inspector general for their release.

Spealcing on the occasion a woman, Amina Bibi, said that the people had been picked up by Chitral police on June 17, 2009, on the pretext of interrogation but kept them in habeas corpus till now.

She said that her family had moved the Supreme Court for the release of the people and the apex court had directed the police to register FIR but to no avail. The SC, she said, had also assigned the case to a commission for further investigation but even then there was no progress in the case.

She warned that if they were not released, they would start holding protest demonstrations on daily basis. Bureau Report Girl commits suicide CHITRAL, Oct 15: A 16-year-old girl committed suicide in Jughoor village of Chitral by jumping into the river on Tuesday. The body was later retrieved from the water and buried.

An official of Chitral police station told Dawn that Bushra Naz daughter of Mohammad Azam was student of a local college. She reportedly jumped into the river after minor altercation with her parents.

The official said that the exact reason of the suicide is yet to be ascertained as the police are still investigating the case under section 174 of CrPC. -Correspondent More dengue cases MINGORA, Oct 15: : Thirty-three more residents tested positive for dengue fever here on Tuesday, taking the number of mosquito-borne disease to 8,390 in district swat.

According to Dr Wasil Khan, focal person for dengue emergency unit at Saidu Group of Teaching Hospital, 4,603 patients had been admitted to hospital, of them 4,383 had been discharged after completion of treatment.

He said that 84 patients including 70 men, 11 women and 3 children, were under treatment at various wards of the hospitals while 126 patients were discharged during the last 24 hours.

Dr. Khan said that 25 patients including 24 men and one woman had been shifted to high dependency unit of the hospital.

Meanwhile, police have chalked out a comprehensive security plan for Eidul Azha. According to sources, about 400 police officials are performing security duty in all districts of the division while officials of Bomb Disposal Unit are also on standby. -Correspondent Allotment of plots demanded PESHAWAR, Oct 15: Reacting to sealing of various guest houses, healthcare centres and hostels in University Town and Hayatabad, the owners and employees have asked the government to provide them alternate jobs or allot them plots in Hayatabad Township so that they can continue their businesses.

Speaking at a press conference at Peshawar Press Club on Tuesday, All Guest Houses Association president Abdul Mugeet said that with closure of the guest houses, hostels and private hospital at least 2,000 people had been rendered jobless.

He said the owners of guest houses, hostels and private hospitals were regularly paying taxes and utility bills and playing important role in strengthening of the local economy but the government deprived them of their livelihood.

He added that if the government did not allow them to open their workplaces then all the relevant people would have to start protest demonstrations till the solution to their demands. -Bureau Report
