Prosecutors` service structure on the cards: minister

LAHORE: Punjab EducationMinister RanaMashhood says the provincial government is working on service structure of prosecutors and establishment of model police stations.

Speaking at a seminar on `Criminal Investigative Services in Pakistan` organised by the Punjab University Institute of Social and Cultural Studies here on Thursday, he termed the Muzaffargarh incident in which the rape victim had committed suicide unfortunate and condemnable.

`We should promote culture of self-accountability in the society,` he said, adding the future of Pakistan was associated with students. He said there was lack of coordination between research/academic institutions and industry and to cope with this challenge, the government was establishing the Knowledge Park.

Additional IGP Kamran Adil said there was a need of wellcoordinated efforts for criminal justice reforms.

PU Vice Chancellor Mujahid Kamran, Faculty of Behavioural and Social Sciences Dean Prof Dr Zakria Zakir and Additional IG Monitoring Punjab Police Waqas Hassan also spoke.

Meanwhile, the PU Academic Staff Association condemned misbehavior of the Orange Train project staff with the family members of a senior professor at his residence at the University Town-1.

In a statement, PUASA President Prof Dr Hasan Mobeen Alam and Secretary Dr Mahboob Hussain said the staff of Orange Line train project on Wednesday visited the house of the senior PU professor and asked for the survey of the house.

Only women were present at home who asked the staff to come later but the staff started misbehaving with women.

The PUASA leaders called upon the authorities to take action against the misbehaving staff of Orange Line Train project.
