GUJRAT: The Punjab Forensic Science Agency has warned the police investigation officers that it will not accept samples for forensic examination in case ofany delayin dispatching the samples of evidence collected from the crime scene, says District Medico Legal Officer (DMLO) Dr Tahir Abbas Gondal.

He was delivering a lecture at a training workshop for investigation ofhcers, including the officials of the newly-constituted homicide unit, at the Police Lines on Thursday.

The worl(shop was organised to train the police officials to use modern gadgets for evidence collection from the crime scene and tracing the cases through call detail record (CDR) and mobile phone data.

Dr Gondal said the investigation officials would often dispatch theevidence weeks and even months after collecting it from the crime scene and when such delayed evidence reached the forensic science agency, it could not examine it, resulting in loss of evidence which was akin to criminal negligence.

Keeping in view the routine slackness, the forensic agency had chalked out new standard operation procedures (SOPs) besides planning such training workshops for the investigation officers of all the districts in different phases, added Mr Gondal who had also served as the medical superintendent of the Aziz Bhatti Shaheed Hospital.

District Police Officer Rai Zameerul Haq urged the ofHcials to be honest while investigating the cases and use modern techniques and gadgets that could be instrumental in tracing cases and provision of justice to the public. SP Kamran Mumtaz also spoke.
