MINGORA: Relatives and attendants of patients at Saidu Teaching Hospital (STH) on Saturday staged a protest against the alleged misbehaviour of the medical staff.
The protesters blocked the Mingora-Saidu Sharif road for three hours and chanted slogans against Dr Anwar Ali, who they alleged, inflicted violence on a fiveyear-old child patient who was admitted to the hospital.
`My granddaughter, Wareesha, whose hand was fractured was brought to the hospital where doctors advised her surgery. But when the medical staff in the operation theatre tried to give the child with anesthesia she resisted, on which the concerned doctor started slapping her,` alleged Mian Muneer, the grandfather of the child. He said the doctor broke her teeth after which she started bleeding.
Nauman Ali, the victim`s uncle, alleged that when she was shifted to the ward from operation theatre he found her broken teeth on the pillow which left him concerned. `When she regained consciousness she told me of the incident and said the doctor treated her harshly and then started slapping her,` he said.
The relatives of the child demanded of the government and medical superintendent of the STH to take legal action against the accused doctor and his two assistants.
`We will continue our protest until termination of the doctor and his assistants, they warned.
Learning about the protest, MPA Fazal Hakeem reached the spot and formed a committee of the senior staff of STH to investigate the matter.
