80pc graduates of geographical information tech employed

LAHORE: Punjab University College of Information Technology Principal Prof Dr Syed Mansoor Sarwar has said that over 80 per cent of students of Geographical Information System (GIS) centre, PUCIT, were employed in the market because of top-notch quality education and demand in market.

He was addressing a ceremony to celebrate World GIS Day at the auditorium of GIS Centre, New Campus, here on Wednesday.

Dr Sarwar said there were only four students in GIS in 2004 but now there were hundreds of applicants seeking admission to the M Phil programme in GIS Remote Sensing. He thanked the vice chan-cellor for reverting the decision of segregating GIS Centre from PUCIT as it had benefited both the faculty and students.

SEMINAR: PU Vice Chancellor Prof Dr Zafar Moeen Nasir has urged students to grasp the message of Allama Iqbal and nurture `Khudi` to bring about intellectual development in the country.

He was addressing a seminar titled Aik hon Muslim Haram ki Pasbani Ke Lipe held at PU College of Art and Design (CAD) on Wednesday.

College Principal Prof Dr Shahida Manzoor, faculty members and students were present on the occasion.

The VC said Iqbal had given the idea of Pakistan and played an important role for its creation.Thestudents presented three mimes Khudi`, `Kafir-o-Momin` and Baidaari` directed by Dr Ahmed Bilal, which enthralled the audience. Students of various departments also presented Kalam-i-Iqbal.

CONVOCATION: Punjab University`s 126th convocation will be held on Nov 20.

A high-level meeting presided over by Convocation Coordination Committee Convener Prof Dr Muhammad Taqi Zahid Butt was held at committee room of VC office here on Wednesday to review arrangements.

PU deans of various faculties and members were present on the occasion.

WORKSHOP: Participants in a workshop on addictive behaviours were of the view that most peoplein society were in dire need of psychological therapy.

Pakistan Institute of Living and Learning (PILL) organised the workshop at the Centre for Clinical Psychology in Punjab University.

PU VC Dr Zafar Moeen Nasir, Centre for Clinical Psychology Director Dr Rukhsana Kausar, clinical psychiatrist and trainer Dr Iqbal Naeem were present on the occasion.

Dr Nasir said most of the people were emotionally or psycho socially disturbed and they were in dire need of therapy.Dr Iqbal termed addiction a multi-faceted monster which became a global issue.

He said addiction should be treated as an epidemic because most of the addicts did not consider their addiction a problem.
