DERA ISMAIL KHAN: Education Monitoring Authority`s employees held a protest demonstration in front of the DI Khan Press Club here on Tuesday, demanding service structure.

They were led by president monitoring officers association Zubair Lohani.

On the occasion, Mr Lohani said the Education Monitoring Authority was established in early 2014, and had since been performing well despite shortage of staff.

He said the authority was monitoring 34,183 schools, 2.5 million employees and 5.6 million students in 35 districts of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.

`A common perception about the authority is that it only monitors the attendance of schoolteachers, but the list of responsibilities the employees of this institution deliver is quite long,` he added.

Mr Lohani said that in addition to their basic duties, the education monitoring officers had performed 28 different additional responsibilities.

He added that the monitoring staff had also performed army public school post incident security survey, conducted school improvement plan, annual census of schools, encroachment survey, out-ofschool survey, school correspondence survey, election duty, independent price monitoring, flood relief survey and many more He said that since 2014, the Education Monitoring Authority was the only authentic and reliable institution of information related to schools in the province.

`Despite the years of efforts of the employees, there are still no workable service rules, no service structure for us,` a protester regretted on the occasion.
