TIMERGARA: The local elementary and secondary education department has announced teachers of government schools will have to do 36 hours duty a week and attend at least 30 classes every week in line with the latest government directives.

The announcement was made by district education officer (male) Lower Dir Hafiz Mohammad Ibrahim during a meeting of the principals and headmasters of the government high and higher secondary schools in the district at Sarai Bala.

The DEO said it was the first time that the department had given the descriptions of the teachers` job.

He said heads of the educational institutions should ensure40 percentofthestudent attendance on campus otherwise the action would be taken against them.

Ibrahim said subject specialists working in higher secondary schools had been made bound to teach their relevant subjects to students from grade 6 to grade 10.

He said teachers working at the government`s primary schools would have to teach all subjects to students from grade 1 to grade 5, while secondary schoolteachers would teach students from grade 6 to grade 10.

`Each secondary school teacher will take at least 30 classes in a week, while the remainder time, he will do research and make preparation for the next classes,` he said, adding that each teacher would have to be present at his/her school for 36 hours a week.

The DEO said the job description proforma would be signed by all teachers.

He asked school heads to send annual confidential report of secondary school teachers by January 5 and said ACRs would not be received thereaf ter.

Ibrahim asked participants to send report to their respective offices about shortage of facilities, especially water, electricity, washrooms, boundary wall, classrooms and laboratory equipment.

District education officer Mohammad Riaz, assistant district officer Ali Haidar and president of the Senior Staff Association Lower Dir Humayun Khan were also present on the occasion.
