2016-12-16
FAISALABAD: Three doctors` associations on Thursday gave a 48-hour deadline to the Punjab government to withdraw transfer orders of two doctors otherwise, they warned, they would suspend services at the indoor departments of three hospitals.

The Punjab Medical College students boycotted their classes and doctors suspended their services at the outpatient departments in protest against the transfer of Medical Teachers Association Secretary-General Dr Khurram Sohail Raja and Pakistan Medical Association`s Dr Mohammad Irfan. Both doctors had been transferred on Wednesday on the allegation of `not performing their duties regularly and instigating others to follow suit.

The teachers and students staged a sit-in at PMC Chowk, where they threw traffic out of gear for about two hours.

They chanted slogans against the health secretary.

Speaking to reporters, some of the protesters said the patients were suffering owing to the wrong policies of the government as doctors were being `victimised` for supporting the stance of the YDA over the Central Induction Policy.
