LAKKI MARWAT: Traders on Sunday blocked the Indus Highway at Ghaznikhel here to protest police raids on their shops to seize weapons which they kept for their security.
According to reports, local police raided several shops in Ghaznikhel Adda and seized weapons from there, forcing the business community to come onto the roads.
The busiest road connecting Peshawar with Karachi remained closed for nearly two hours. But the transporters reportedly used the bypass road to continue journey.
The traders’ leaders said that they kept weapons at shops for security purposes, but the police raided the outlets and seized weapons besides insulting them.
The protesters said that instead of harassing business community the police should launch offensive against criminals’ gangs and anti-social elements in the district. Later, Lakki additional assistant commissioner Pir Mohammad Mehsud got the road opened after holding successful talks with the protesters. —Correspondent
