`Mischief-making syllabi`

2016-03-17
APROPOS your editorial `Mischief-making syllabi` (March 14). The write-up is an eye-opener for educationists and should goad the government into realising its responsibility towards the kind of knowledge being imparted to students.

The fundamental rule for preparing syllabus is that the information incorporated in the textbook is authentic. Science syllabi usually fall victim to obsolete theories and experiments but are seldom injurious to the feelings of any class of people.

The best investment today is in education. Advanced countries are unveiling discoveries. This has made it mandatory for developing countries to work at a faster pace to try to catch up. Malaysia is an example. It became an Asian tiger only because of the quantum leap in education.

Educational planning and textbook boards are pillars of education. Both need to work in unison. There is an urgent need to overhaul our education boards to bring education at par with at least the developing world if not the G-7 countries.
