Ban on road blockade during protests

SUKKUR: Commissioner Mohammed Abbas Baloch on Thursday announced that participants in street protest would not be allowed to block any road to disrupt vehicular traffic in Sukkur division.

Cases would be registered against protesters if they tried to disrupt traffic by staging demonstrations or sit-ins, he said while chairing a meeting of the divisional coordination committee here on Thursday.

He said display of weapons by protesters would be effectively checked. The Sukkur DIG, deputy commissioners and SSPs of Sukkur, Khairpur and Ghotki districts, besides other senior district and police officials attended the meeting.

The meeting reviewed progress of the National Action Plan against terrorism at the division level and noted a marked improvement in law and order as a result of the ongoing antiterror operation.

The meeting was informed that the process of collecting data of seminaries functioning within the division had been completed and the Loudspeaker Act was being strictly implemented.

The commissioner warned that if wallchalking or party flags were seen anywhere in the division, action would be taken against the taluka municipal administration concerned.

He issued directives for the arrest of any Afghan or foreigner found living in any part of the division illegally. He called for keeping a close eye on oil tankers entering the division in view of reports about smuggling of arms and ammunition through such vehicles.
