Two killed, eight injured in gunfight between rivals

LAHORE: Two men were killed while eight others injured in a gunfight between rival groups on Joay Shah Road in Sanda late on Saturday night.
Police said Puppoo Shah and his men were sitting in a street on Joay Shah Road when Saleem from their rival Akram Jatt group exchanged hot words with them.
After a short while, Saleem and the group leader, Akram Jatt, along with some other men arrived there and asked Shah and his men to leave the place.
As Shah refused, a crossfire ensued between the rivals, resulting in bullet injuries to at least 10 people.
The injured were taken to the Mayo Hospital where two of them, one each from the rival groups, succumbed to their injuries. Theremaining eight people were said to be stable.
Those killed include Akram Jatt (45) and Umar Naeem (26), of Puppoo Shah group.
The injured include Talha, Dildar Shah, Syed Iftikhar and Asad Shah from Shah group and Salman, Ali, Tahir, Nadeem and Saeedof Jattgroup.
The police shifted the bodies to the morgue for autopsies and registered the case.
Iqbal Town Superintendent of Police (SP) investigation Shaista Nadeem said 12 suspects from both sides had been arrested.
She said initial investigation revealed that the groups had an old enmity but had reached a `ceasefire` agreement a few months back. Last night, the agreement was violated by one of the groups, resulting in bloodletting, she added.
