KARACHI: The body of a missing girl was found floating in the Lyari river near Liaquatabad on Wednesday and an autopsy found that she was subjected to a sexual assault.

Police said that it appeared that the girl was kidnapped, raped and murdered. The bodywas dumped in the Lyari river and it floated to Liaquatabad`s Angara Goth.

They said that the corpse was shifted to the Abbasi Shaheed Hospital (ASH) for a post-mortem examination.

Police Surgeon Summaiya Syed told Dawn that the physical findings were `suggestive of sexual violence`.

She said that all relevant samples had been collected and the cause of death reserved untilthe receipt of reports.

Liaquatabad SHO Ghulam Yasin said that the girl was identified as Savera Jamil, 10.

Sachal SHO Aurangzeb Khattak told Dawn that the girl had gone missing in Sikander Goth on Tuesday and her familyhad registered a kidnapping case against unknown persons.

`Missing` teenager found murdered A `missing` teenage boy was found murdered near Hawkesbay on Wednesday afternoon, police and rescue services officials said.

The Mauripur police said that the tortured body of 15-year-old Rajab Ali was recovered from a drain in Sher Mohammed Village.

DIG-South Syed Asad Raza told Dawn that during the initial probe, it transpired that the deceased was a resident of Machhar Colony within the remit of the Docks police station. He added that the victim was an orphan.

He said the boy`s mother hadvisited the police station on Tuesday night, stating that her son had been missing for the last four-five days. Following that, the police had registered a case.

He said there was a `family dispute` which might be a probable motive behind the murder.

However, the police were further investigating the case to ascertain facts, he added.

Mauripur SHO Chaudhry Saleem said the body appeared to be four-five days old, indicating the possibility that the boy might have been killed on the same day he went missing and the body was thrown in the drain.

The corpse was shifted to the Dr Ruth Pfau Civil Hospital Karachi for medico-legal formalities.
