Five kids, who ate toxic sweets, stable at hospital

GUJRAT: The condition of five children, who had eaten toxic sweets in Hafizabad, has improved at the Children`s Hospital Lahore where the officials of district health department have been taking proper care of them.

All the expenditures on the treatment of the affected children are being provided by the government.

This was said by Hafizabad Deputy Commissioner Abdul Razzaq while talking to the heirs of victims of toxic sweets at their houses in Christian Colony on Wednesday.

Accompanied by Hafizabad District Police Officer Atif Nazir and other officials, the DC visited the church at Qila Sahib Singh village in the outskirts of Hafizabad city where three children died and condition of five oth-ers deteriorated after eating toxic sweets distributed by an unidentified rickshaw driver on Monday night.

The DC and DPO also went to the houses of all the affected children and offered condolence to the bereaved families as well as assured them of government`s complete help.

He commended the positive role of local Christian community in maintaining peace in society.

Official sources said the district administration had recommended the provincial government for the issuance of financial compensation to the heirs ofthe deceased and other victims of the tragedy.

They said police had already lodged a murder case against unidentified suspects and a thorough investigation into the incident was being done to ascertain the suspect and the motive behind the incident against a peaceful Christian community.
