10 more arrested in Mansehra lynching case

MANSEHRA: The police have bool(ed 10 more people on the charge of involvement in the lynching of a man in Garhi Habibullah over an alleged extramarital affair.

`We have booked 10 more suspects in the lynching case but four of them have got pre-arrest bails from a local court,` SHO of the Garhi Habibullah police station Mohammad Yasir told reporters here on Tuesday.

Abdul Sattar, a driver by profession, was first shot and then stoned and clubbed to death by an angry mob in Dara Shawal village on April 22.

His family had named 10 more suspects in the case on Sunday prompting four of them, including Mohammad Sajid, Mohammad Adil, Abdul Razzaq and Liaqat Ali, to secure pre-arrest bail. The SHO said among the suspects at large were Mohammad Manzoor, Mohammad Sadiq, Shimroz, Babar, Aashig and Mohammad Liaquat.

`We have been carrying out raids for the arrest of suspects and are optimistic that they will be arrested soon,` he said. The police have already arrested three main suspects in the case, including Khushal Khan and sons Mohammad Rashid and Mohammad Sajid.

Mohammad Nisar, who allegedly fired bullets at Abdul Sattar, fled to Saudi Arabia. The police said they were in contact with Interpol to secure his custody.

The SHO claimed he had managed to free Abdul Sattar from the mob but he was so injured that he died before reaching the hospital.

VARSITY BUDGET OKAYED: The Rs2.29 billion budget was approved for Hazara University in the next financial year on Tuesday. The approval was made during a meeting chaired by Vice-Chancellor Dr Mohammad Idrees.

Of the funds, Rs1.3 billion is for development expenditure and Rs1.25 for non-development one, including salary of staff members. The VC told participants that the university had around 13,000 students enrolled in different courses of 33 departments.

He said the university had focused its attention on the promotion of research-orientated education and thus, attracting students from across the country. Correspondent
