Woman dies on road MANSEHRA, June 16: A woman was killed and three members of her family sustained critical injuries when a car they were travelling in plunged into a ravine in Dubgrain area here on Saturday.

The car was going from Dubgrain to Mansehra when the driver lost control over the steering at a sharp turn and hit a roadside tree.

As a result, the car fell into a deep ravine, killing the woman on the spot. She was identified as Farhat Shahzadi.

The injured, including Shabeerul Wazir, Bibi Hajra and a minor girl, Huda, were taken to King Abdullah Teaching Hospital. -Correspondent Work on Lowari tunnel sought CHITRAL, June 16: The members of All Political Parties Steering Committee (APPSC), Chitral, have demanded of the federal government to restart work on the Lowari tunnel project without further delay.

Addressing a press conference here on Saturday Maulana Abdul Shakoor, Mehmud Esa Khan, Sher Baig, Sher Hakim Khan and others expressed displeasure over the stoppage of work on the Lowari tunnel project.

They said despite concerned federal minister`s claim to have allocated Rs2 billion for restarting the work on the project nothing had been materialised.

They said the inordinate delay in the commencement of work on the project had disappointed the people of Chitral.

They threatened to stage violent protests if the work was not restarted immediately.

The district coordinator of the Strengthening Participatory Organisation (SPO) Eng Taimur Shah was also present on the occasion.

He said the SPO was working to strengthen the political organisation and had provided them with a common platform to solve their problems. -Correspondent Bomb found near NGO office SWABI, June 16: A five-kilogram bomb was found near the offices of a local non-governmental organisation here on Saturday, said the police.

The device was planted in a ghee tin near offices of Samajee Behbood Rabita Council (SBRC) in Swabi city.

The local people informed the police about the suspicious ghee tin lying abandoned in the congested area.

The police cordoned off the area and called the bomb disposal squad, which reached the spot immediately and safely defused the bomb.

The police registered an FIR against unidentified militants in the city police station and started investigation. Correspondent Power breakdown ABBOTTABAD, June 16: Abbottabad, Haripur and the entire Galyat experienced the longest ever power breakdown, after supply was disrupted on Friday evening, which could not be restored till 6pm on Saturday.

Pesco was unable to explain the cause of the power breakdown.

The power supply was restored for only two hours from 9am to llam on Saturday.

When contacted, local officials of Pesco simply replied that they had nothing to do with the power supply suspension as it was being controlled from the main distribution link at Burhan. They said, `We don`t have the loadshedding schedule.

Due to the worst power breakdown, acute water shortage was experienced in Abbottabad and Galyat.

Tourists faced problems as local hotel and restaurant owners were unable to cope with the situation. Business community also suffered due to power outage.

Meanwhile, the city traders have once again asked the Pesco officers to fully implement the loadshedding schedule which was agreed upon by the traders, Pesco and the district administration. -Correspondent Apex body meets PESHAWAR, June 16: The Apex Committee, involving top Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government and military representatives, held a meeting here on Saturday and reviewed the law and order situation in the province, according to an official press release.

Attended by Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Governor Masood Kausar, Chief Minister Ameer Haider Hoti, and Corps Commander, Peshawar, Lt-Gen Khalid Rabbani, the meeting also reviewed the progress of the reconstruction and rehabilitation projects being carried out in the terrorism and militancy affected parts of the province.

Besides, it also took stock of the prevailing law and order situation in the Federally Administered Tribal Areas.

The committee was also briefed about the steps being taken to enhance the security at Pak-Afghan border. Bureau Report
