IT has been over 20 years since the Malir Development Authority (MDA) announced the ill-fated Malir Housing Project Scheme No. 1 on the National Highway, aimed primarily for the benefit of the lowand middle-income group.
From its inception till now, the project has been subject to gross mismanagement and it was not until all applicants submitted a sizeable sum of money that the MDA finally allotted plots through computerised balloting.
Despite having collected billions of rupees from the applicants, the development work carried out is deplorable to say the least.
Basic facilities such as hospitals, schools, colleges, mosques, community centres, recreational parks and commercial markets have proved to be empty promises.
It goes without saying that these delays have caused the costofconstructionand related expenses to go up exponentially during these years due to the effect of inflation and has severely impaired our dream of having a home.
The authorities concerned are requested to take measures to redress the situation.
