GIK Institute disburses Rsl30m to needy students

SWABI: Ghulam Ishaq Khan Institute of Engineering Sciences and Technology disbursed over Rs130 million from its own resources as Enancial assistance to the brilliant and needy undergraduate and graduate students in the current academic year.

GIK Institute Rector Jehangir Bashar told me dia persons here the other day that another Rs90 million was provided as assistance by external donors, prominent among which were the governments of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Punjab, Ihsan Trust, Fata Secretariat and NICT.

A number of private individuals and companies also contributed, he said.

The rector said that GIK would continue to provide assistance to as many students from low income families as possible in future too so that they could get quality education.

He said that the institute had proposed an allocation of over Rs170 million for similar financial assistance in the budget for 2017-18. `Most of the institute`s partners have committed to continue their assistance in the next year,` he said.

EID PACKAGE: The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa SocialWelfareDepartment on Friday completed distribution of cheques to the deserving special people in the district as `Ramazan and Eidul Fitr Package` The process to give financial assistance to special people was started a week ago at the office of Khidmati-Mazooran Tanzeem (KMT). A small number of special people were called daily to get the cheques.

Officials claimed that a total of 583 special people of the district registered with KMT had been given a cheque for Rs5,000 each.

They said that the package was part of the efforts of the provincial government to provide help to the special people.
