Punjab asks police for details of unregistered nonprofits

RAWALPINDI: The Punjab government has asked the police for details of unregistered nonprofits, societies, NGOs, trusts, charities other organisations to implement the recommendations of the Financial Action Task Force (FATF).

According to sources, the home department has directed police across the province to gather details of all such organisations and send a complete report on their activities to the concerned authorities.

Sources said a performa was also sent to the divisional police chiefs, seekingthe names of organisations, the whereabouts of their owners, when they were established and other details.The details of unregistered nonproht organisations have been sought to implement the recommendations of the FATF, which suggested reviewing laws and regulations so these organisations cannot be used to finance terrorism.

Individuals involved in hate speech The city police officer (CPO) has sought details of religious individuals involved in hate speech, and said that only sermons in Arabic can be delivered through loudspeakers during Friday prayers.

All station house officers have been directed to take legal action under the National Action Plan against those found to be involved in violating the law and misusing loudspeakers.

A police spokesperson said on Tuesday that the Rawalpindi CPO has directed for records of all individuals involved in hate speech to be collected.

He said anyone involved in such activities should be prohibited from entering Rawalpindi district, and the social environ-ment of peace and tranquility should be maintained and protected.

The CPO expressed these views during a meeting with senior police officers from the district.

CPO Mohammad Faisal Rana said that a peaceful environment should be ensured during Eidul Azha and Muharramul Haram.

He also said the police should collaborate with other law enforcement organisations and institutions for information.

Records of such individuals should be conveyed to his office, he said, adding that loudspeaker violations can be a threat to social peace and no one should be allowed to carry out such violations according to the NAP.

He said only sermons in Arabic can be delivered using loudspeakers at Friday prayers, and SHOs should take action immediately upon the misuse of loudspeakers.

He said comprehensive strategies must be formed and proactive safety measures applied for Eidul Azha and Muharram.
