ISLAMABAD: The city managers plan to install 20 smart signals on differentroads ofthe city.
According to CDA, sensors based signals will reduce manual intervention as they will automatically turn green, red or yellow, depending upon the traffic load.
`The sensors will visually measure the number of vehicles and the wait will be adjusted automatically,` said a statement issued by the civic agency on Tuesday.
The CDA spokesperson Syed Safdar Ali said that the civic agency`s directorate of Electrical and Mechanical initially will install 20 smart signals and later on it will convert all signals of Islamabad to smart ones.
He said file work had been completed and soon 20 signals would be made smart ones.
The CDA`s statement said: `Installation of smart signals will minimize the need of manual intervention at traffic junctions and commuters will also benefit from reduced wait timings. Installation of smart signals will also come in handy, especially during rain.
Furthermore, the statement said that 20 display timer signals will be also installed at important and major cross sections. In addition to this initiative, faulty and dysfunctional signals would be also revamped.
Presently, there are 134 trafñc signals installed at different roads of the city which include 30 blinker signals.
The CDA management directed the traffic engineering wing of the authority to ensure that besides introducing technology based signals, steps be taken to carry out repair / maintenance of existing signals.
