DADU: Johar Brohi, renowned poet of Sindhi, Urdu and Brahui, writer, researcher and scholar passed away after sudden heart failure at the age of 75 in Fareedabad, Dadu district, on Wednesday.

Fareedabad town observed a complete voluntary shutdown to mourn the death of the scholar. The Mehar branch of Sindhi Adabi Sangat, led by Secretary Azad Anwar Kandhro and councilor Sarmad Brohi, announced a week of mourning over Brohi`s demise.

Born on Jan 29, 1950, Brohiauthored over 80 books in Sindhi, Urdu and Brahui.

He was well known for his translation of Shah Abdul Latif Bhitai`s Risalo into Brahui in addition to translating Persian works of Bedil Sain and Hidayat Ali Tark Najafi into Sindhi.

His notable works include: Kachhi payi kokh (first Sindhi poetry collection), Gul phul geet (children`s poetry), Sindh rang (translation of 100 Sindhi poets into Brahui), compilation of poems by people`s poet Varand Wayo.

He also wrote extensively on Shah Latif, Kachho, Sindhi history, and literature and published hundreds of articles. He received widespread recognition for his contributions, including the Shah Latif Award, a Presidential Award for his book on Seerat-un-Nabi in Brahui literature, and more than 30 other literary honours.

Just recently, he had participated in a literary event of young poet and KTN actor, Didar Danish Khosa, organised by Sindhi Adabi Sangat in Mehar.
